Start for $3m Linkfield Road on-ramp upgrade

October 15, 2019

Works to improve drive times on the Linkfield Road overpass are ramping up.

Construction will start later this month on the $3 million on-ramp upgrade, after the Palaszczuk Government secured its funding for the $125 million overpass upgrade in its June budget.

Member for Aspley Bart Mellish said the upgrade would provide relief for drivers heading east on Linkfield Road with a dedicated left-turn lane onto the Gympie Arterial Road northbound.

“The Palaszczuk Government is tackling congestion on the northside with more than $3.13 billion for regional road upgrades,” Mr Mellish said.

“This solution will eliminate the need for eastbound motorists to merge with through traffic, before turning onto the Gympie Arterial Road.”

Member for Pine Rivers Nikki Boyd said Doval Construction has been awarded the tender for construction, with the upgrade to support seven jobs.

“Locals know just how frustrating rush hour traffic is on this interchange, with vehicles moving in all sorts of directions,” Ms Boyd said.

“We’re taking immediate action to ease traffic pressures on Linkfield Road while we work with the Federal Government to bring forward their funding so we can get started on a major upgrade sooner.”
