Concrete solution for South Pine Road noise barrier

The old timber noise barrier along a section of South Pine Road, Eatons Hill, will be replaced next month with a new concrete one.

Member for Pine Rivers Nikki Boyd said a painted 100 metre long, three metre high concrete barrier would be built on the western side of the road between the South Pine Road northbound lanes and the service road to Bunya Park Drive.

“We’ re committed to reducing the impact of traffic noise on residents and the local community where possible,” Ms Boyd said.

“The old timber barrier needs to be replaced, so this new concrete barrier will provide a much improved buffer to road noise for residents.

“It will be painted a mangrove colour to blend in with surrounding landscaping."

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the noise barrier works were part of a series of South Pine Road upgrades being delivered by the Palaszczuk Government.

“We’ve committed $3.28 billion to road and transport projects in the Brisbane metro region and some of the most congested northside roads and intersections are on the list for upgrades,” he said.

“Works have started on an upgrade at the Wruck Crescent and Ferguson Street intersection in Albany Creek, which should be done by mid-year.

“TMR also finished an $1.8 million South Pine Road upgrade near Halle Street in late 2019 and early works have already started on a major $31 million upgrade between South Pine Road and Stafford Road.

"The Everton Park Link Road project will create a new connection from South Pine Road, north of the Kedron Brook Creek, to Stafford Road, east of Mountridge Street.

“The completed design includes connections to the Kedron Brook Bikeway and new pedestrian facilities, making sure not just drivers but bike riders and pedestrians benefits from this project.

“That project is part one of a much larger plan to bust congestion in the local area with the second stage set to include an upgrade of the Stafford Road and South Pine Road intersection.”

Ms Boyd said works would include some vegetation clearing and removal of the existing timber barrier.

Works will be undertaken during the day and are expected to be complete by July, weather and construction conditions permitting.
