A safer Samford Road

A safer Samford Road

The Palaszczuk Government has announced a $3.4 million upgrade to boost safety on Samford Road.

Member for Pine Rivers Nikki Boyd said designs are now underway to upgrade a 1.5km stretch of the road between the Lomandra Road picnic area at Ferny Hills through to Camp Mountain Road intersection.

“More than 13,000 people travel on this stretch of road every day, and this upgrade is about improving safety for them,” Ms Boyd said.

“It’s part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $900 million investment in road safety.

The upgrade will include overhauling the existing road surface, wide centre line treatments, additional drainage, safety barrier and a possible reconfiguration of the road.

“It’ll importantly also improve safety for the thousands of visitors who make the trek to the hinterland during weekends and holidays.”

Member for Ferny Grove Mark Furner said it follows the $7.5 million announcement in August to target upgrades at three priority intersections on Samford Road.

“As a growing area, parts of this road have become increasingly congested during peak times. That’s why we’ve fast-tracked funding to upgrade key choke points," Mr Furner said.

Ms Boyd said the local community would be able to have their say on the proposed road safety treatments during the design process.

Surveying work and, geotechnical and pavement investigations have started to assist the design process.
