New U-turn on Gympie Road

December 15, 2019

Road users can look forward to improved safety and traffic flow at the intersection of Gympie Road and Buckby Street at Strathpine, near Pine Rivers State High School.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said a U-turn would be installed at the intersection to reduce conflicts between motorists and pedestrians.

"The U-turn will help to improve safety, particularly during peak periods before and after school hours at Pine Rivers State High School," Mr Bailey said.

"It will enable motorists to change direction from southbound to northbound on Gympie Road, rather than having to turn into the service road.

“The service road is frequently used by students and other pedestrians moving between Pine Rivers State High School and Bray Park Rail Station.

“It’s part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $3.13 billion roads and transport program for our region.”

The U-turn will be implemented in conjunction with the removal of the right-turn filter at the traffic signals for southbound traffic.

This is required to improve safety for motorists waiting for a gap in oncoming traffic to turn right.

The U-turn and right turn into the service road will be controlled by a green arrow to ensure motorist and pedestrian safety.
